Joseph Pilates developed a technique to heal and rehabilitate soldiers of WWI. His work found revival decades later in the 1950s New York dance community. More recently it has informed a fitness trend with many focused on “working from the core”. Pilates has been proven to increase muscle tone, improve coordination and flexibility, as well as balance the body-mind.
Ground Space offers several movement modalities, including Ground Space Pilates, for healing and cultivating holistic strength. Working to balance the body’s natural forces of energy by harnessing information and power from beneath the muscle body, supports the ability to differentiate between holding patterns and fluid strength, and further develops the art of letting go.
Our practitioners are working professionals who have integrated their self-healing processes with the principles of movement that have been informed by wise and embodied elders. With intuitive sensibility they guide restoration and balance through movement, meditation, and other supportive wellness offerings.
Katie is the Founder and Director of the Ground Space for Meditation and Movement in Los Angeles, CA.
Her approach to movement draws from contemporary Pilates, meditation and 25 years of embodiment and studies of dance. Her work is guided by her experiences healing her own injuries from a life as a professional dancer.
Katie’s years spent dancing with the Radio City Rockettes, ignited a great respect for traditional dance legacy and the collective spirit of women in movement.
Her intention with the Ground Space is in gathering exceptional and uniquly talented educators and those looking to further their education, to develop and share sustainable practices in self care, freedom through movement and meditation. And to abide in a space wherein we can all learn and lift each other up. She is inspired by a community of women who gather weekly to share as teachers, by her dance parentage, and by her dedicated clientele.
